EDUCATION:

  • College: Attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and La Universidad de las Américas in Puebla, Mexico. Graduated with the B.A. degree (summa cum laude) in Biblical Education from Florida Bible College, 1979.
  • Seminary: Graduated with the Th.M. degree in New Testament Literature and Exegesis from Capital Bible Seminary, 1983. D.Min. studies at Reformed Theological Seminary.

CREDENTIALS:

  • Ordained August 19, 1983 by Faith Bible Church (Sterling, Virginia).
  • Received into the Presbyterian Church in America by Western Carolina Presbytery, January 1989.
  • Currently a member of Gulf Coast Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America.

EXPERIENCE:

Teacher:

  • District of Columbia Bible Institute (Washington, DC), Instructor in Biblical Studies, 1980-1982.
  • Faith Christian School (Sterling, Virginia), Worked as a middle school teacher while writing Master’s thesis, 1982-1983.
  • Puebla Biblical Seminary (Puebla, Mexico), Instructor in Biblical and Theological Studies, Area Director of Extension Ministries, 1987-1988.
  • King College (Bristol, Tennessee), Adjunct Instructor in Biblical Studies, 1995.
  • Emerald Coast School of Bible (Pensacola, Florida), Instructor in Biblical Studies, 1999.
  • African Bible College (Kampala, Uganda), Adjunct Instructor in Biblical Studies, 2006. 
  • Westminster Theological College/Seminary (Kampala, Uganda), Professor of Biblical Studies, Lecturer in Practical Theology, 2005-present.

Foreign Missionary

  • Served with CAM International in Mexico, 1984-1988.
    Worked on church planting teams to establish churches in Mexico City, Cholula, and Celaya, Mexico. Administered extension ministries for the Puebla Biblical Seminary in a three-state region of central Mexico in addition to teaching in the residence program.
  • Serving with Mission to the World in Uganda, 2004-present.
    Began full-time itineration in August 2004 and left for the field one year later. 

Currently serving in the areas of theological education (see above), college administration (Dean of Students 2005-2006, Academic Dean 2006-present), and mission administration (Kampala Team Leader 2007-2009; Uganda Country Director 2009-present). Active in church planting through teaching courses in church planting at WTC/S, assessing, recommending, and mentoring church planters for Uganda, Rwanda, Congo, and Sudan.

Pastor:

  • Covenant Presbyterian Church, Waynesville, North Carolina, 1989-1991.
    Began preaching regularly in October of 1988. Served first as stated supply and then as revitalization pastor.
  • Abingdon Presbyterian Church, Abingdon, Virginia, 1991-1995.
    Solo pastor in a church revitalization ministry.
  • New Song Presbyterian Church, Pace, Florida, 1996-2002.
    Was called by Gulf Coast Presbytery to plant a PCA church in Pace (Pensacola area), Florida in 1996. Began as a church planter in 1996, became the organizing pastor in 1997 and continued as pastor after the church was organized. In January 2003 the church merged with another young church in the area to form Christ Community Church.
  • Christ Community Church (Assistant Pastor), Pensacola, Florida, 2003 - 2004.
    After the merger of New Song with Christ Community, I served as a part-time assistant pastor while itinerating in preparation to go with Mission to the World to Uganda.

SPECIAL INTERESTS:

  • Equipping church planters and pastors, especially in the developing world.
  • Mobilizing missionaries from the Global South to reach the Muslim world.

OTHER:

  • Certified as an Evangelism Explosion Teacher/Trainer. I have launched and led this ministry at three different churches.
  • Participated in and led several short-term mission teams.
  • Approved as a church planter by the assessment center of Mission to North America and have been involved in some capacity in more than 20 church plants.
  • Served on numerous Presbytery committees and have chaired the MNA committee as well as an oversight commission for a new church plant. I also have served on some General Assembly Committees of Commissioners and on one permanent committee (Nominating Committee) of the PCA General Assembly.
