The consecration and enthronement of Reverend Wilson Kitara as the third Bishop of Kitgum Diocese was presided over by His Grace The Most Reverend Stanly Ntagali, the Arch Bishop of the Church of Uganda. The event that attracted thousands of people took place at All Saints Cathedral Kitgum District, on Sunday, 25 November 2018 starting at 9:00 a. m. The mood was jovial, choirs sang, and people joyfully chanted, prayed and praised God at the ordination ground. Many people witnessed this highly anticipated consecration.

The Kitgum Diocese had been under Northern Uganda Diocese until twenty-three years ago. In 1995, her first bishop was installed. Kitgum Diocese oversees churches under Church of Uganda in the districts of Pader, Agago, Lamwoo, and the host district.

Bishop Wilson Kitara was born and raised in Kitgum to Mr. Petero Akengo and Mrs. Miryel Lamunu Akengo form the Gem-onyot clan. He grew up in Acutomer Village, Gem-onyot (Okinga) Parish, Acholibur sub-county, current Pader District.

Bishop Kitara went to Okinga Primary School for his primary education, Sir Samuel Baker school in Gulu for secondary education, and Uganda Christian University for his first degree and Masters of Arts in Theology and Health Care Management. He also studied from UMI for a certificate in Human Resource Management and Law from Makerere University Kampala. He is married to Mrs. Ketty Auma Kitara and they are blessed with three children who are still living.

Bishop Wilson Kitara becomes the third bishop following in the footsteps of bishops who have served in the diocese since its installation. Retired Bishop Marklord Baker Ochola II was the first bishop to serve in Kitgum Diocese. Retired Bishop Benjamin Ojwang who left office in 2015, succeeded him.
Since November 2015, the diocese had been under the leadership of caretaker former Retired Bishop of Lango Diocese, John Charles Odur Carmi. Rt. Rev. Bishop Dr. Stephen Samuel K. M., the bishop of Mityana Diocese preached on the theme: "A Call to be a Bridge Builder." He read a text from Isaiah 58:12 - following. His message focused on peace, reconciliation, and forgiveness.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda represented His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in this event. The President presented to the newly installed bishop a brand new car to help him in his duties. Over fifteen serving bishops graced the occasion including three retired bishops. The Arch Bishop for Northern Uganda John Baptist Odama. other clergies from the Moslem, and Orthodox also graced the occasion. Diplomats from England, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates represented their countries.

Bishop Wilson pledges to work to reconcile and restore the vision and mission of the diocese. He is committed to rebuilding functioning and purposive institutions throughout the diocese. He plans to restore, rebuild and strengthen leadership at all levels, and restore integrity of the clergy throughout the diocese. He wants to work with communities to revive confidence and unity among Christians and improve relationships with other dioceses.
