COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course covers the foundations of numerical skills. In addition, the course addresses practical topics such as rounding and estimating, speed, distance and time problems, practical applications of ratio and proportion, managing bank accounts and other business applications including interest. During the course the students will increase their proficiency in mental arithmetic, written calculations and the use of basic electronic calculators.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the course the student should:
· be able to solve basic arithmetic problems quickly
· be able to solve basic arithmetic problems accurately
· be able to interpret application problems and choose the correct methods
for solving them
· be confident about attempting numerical problems
· be able to keep abreast of basic personal finances, and be especially aware
of the dangers of debt
· be able to use a calculator accurately and efficiently to solve problems
